I don't know when it began, but I have always had a deep affection for the elderly. Looking back at the friendships I have formed, I notice so many silver-haired, gold-hearted people whose grounded, wise, and simple ways of looking at life have brought me joy. Intergenerational friendships are as special as any bond, if not more.
As life moved forward and I spoke with more families, I realized that millions of seniors in India live by themselves. While many may have found ways to meet their utility needs, they often continue to lead isolated lives because of the loss of a companion or genuinely busy families.
Today, by my side, stands a small but strong group of empathetic young graduates and professionals who, just like me, have found friendship and love in elders in their own lives and now wish to bring those same bonds to many who seek them through Talme Connects.
After a successful beta period full of learning, we came to realize this is indeed the right path. We believe in the love and comfort a bond between generations can bring, and we will continue to pursue it with all the empathy and sensitivity we can muster.
